As per reports, following are the latest updates related to flooding in Nepal as on Wednesday (08 October):
• More than 1,300 houses have been affected by flooding triggered by continuous rainfall on Saturday and Sunday (04 – 05 October) in Sunsari district.
• According to Superintendent of Police Keshav Thebe, the floods have impacted 1,370 houses across several municipalities, including Dharan, Itahari, Barahakshetra, Duhabi, Ramdhuni, Inaruwa, Gadhi, Barju, Koshi, Bhokraha, Harinagar, and Dewangunj.
• The floods have directly affected 5,474 people, with many homes partially damaged after floodwaters entered the settlements.
• Security personnel rescued 344 individuals trapped by floodwaters in different areas.
• In the district headquarters Inaruwa, about 200 families have been displaced after floods from the Sunsari River in the west and the Gadn Khola in the east inundated several settlements, including wards 3, 4, 9 (Babiya) and 10 (Jalpapur) of Inaruwa Municipality.
• The late monsoon rains wreaked havoc across Nepal, mainly in Bagmati, Madhesh, and Koshi provinces. The nationwide death toll caused by water-induced disasters stood at 61 till Tuesday (07 October) evening.
• Police announced that a total of 60 people, including 26 women and 15 children, lost their lives in floods and landslides caused by the rainfall.
• In the Ilam region, which was the hardest hit by the disasters, 37 people, including 10 children, were reported dead.
• Authorities noted that some roads blocked due to floods and landslides have been reopened for use and that work is continuing in disaster areas.
