Update on flooding and landslides reported across provinces in Indonesia- Saturday (29 November)

As per reports, as of Saturday (29 November), according to the latest update from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), a total of 174 deaths across provinces in Indonesia, namely Aceh, Sumatra, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra, occurred as a result of widespread floods and landslides. Meanwhile, another 79 people reportedly remain missing. The largest number of fatalities is reported from North Sumatra, with a total of 116 deaths, while in West Sumatra, 23 deaths, 12 missing, and four injuries have been reported.

• In Aceh Province, the BNPB recorded 35 deaths, 25 missing, and eight injured. The majority of victims reportedly came from Bener Meriah, Southeast Aceh, and Central Aceh, and data collection remains ongoing in several areas, including East Aceh, Aceh Singkil, and North Aceh.
• From West Sumatra, 23 victims were recorded as dead, with 12 people missing, and four others injured, spread across several areas such as Padang Panjang, Tanah Datar, Agam, Padang City, and West Pasaman.
• Several areas have also reported evacuation centres, including 50 in Pesisir Selatan, three in Padang City, and several other locations in Solok, Pasaman, and Tanah Datar Regencies. The current total number of evacuees stands at 3,900 families.
• In addition, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reportedly set three priorities for emergency response. Firstly, to restore land access, particularly roads buried by landslides and collapsed bridges. The Ministry of Public Works (PU) has put heavy equipment on standby and is awaiting improved weather for optimal operations.
• Secondly, to engage in the distribution of logistics, both food and non-food, via air, and thirdly, to restore communications and electricity across affected provinces.
