Update on flood situations in Thailand – Monday (01 December)

As per reports, following are the latest updates of the heavy rainfall and flooding in Hat Yai and its surrounding districts in southern Thailand as of Monday (01 December):

• Authorities have declared all 16 districts of Songkhla a Disaster Zone, with floods impacting 115 sub-districts, 821 villages, and 167 communities. The flooding has affected more than 243,000 households, encompassing over 635,000 people across the region.
• As of Sunday (30 November), Hat Yai has recorded 138 deaths. Authorities have classified the victims in two categories: 73 those who have drowned, and 65 those who died in Songklanagarind Hospital.
• Additionally, the Emergency Flood Crisis Operations Centre (EFCOC) announced on Monday (01 December) that 26,000 households will receive the first batch of 9,000-baht compensation payments, totalling 239 million baht.
• Authorities have also restored approximately 80 percent of tap water in Songkhla Province and are expected to be fully operational by Wednesday (03 December), as authorities repair the damaged pipes and other equipment in the region, along with waste removal.
• The Prime Minister of Thailand Anutin Charnvirakul has stated that all residents should be able to return to their homes within seven days.
• Over 103 community kitchens are currently operational helping in food distribution work across the affected areas.
• Furthermore, restoration of electricity along with medical facilities is also underway.
