Update on flight disruptions and travel advisories due to escalations in Middle East as of Sunday (08 March)

As per reports, multiple closures due to ongoing escalations in the Middle East continue to affect Middle Eastern airspaces as of Sunday (08 March).

• According to reports, Iraqi authorities have extended the closure of national airspace until 1200 hours local time (0900 hours UTC) on Tuesday (10 March), as a precautionary measure in response to the ongoing regional conflict.
• Bahrain International Airport remains temporarily suspended. The Bahrain Civil Aviation Affairs (BCAA) is scheduled to provide its next operational update at 1100 hours local time (0800 hours UTC) on Sunday (08 March) regarding a potential safe reopening.
• Operations at Dubai International Airport (DXB) were briefly suspended on Saturday evening (07 March) following a drone strike on a runway. Limited operations have since resumed; however, debris from intercepted aerial threats continues to pose a residual risk to schedules, and further temporary suspensions cannot be ruled out at short notice.
• Ben Gurion Airport (TLV), Tel Aviv, has commenced a gradual resumption of outbound commercial flights on Sunday (08 March) from 0800 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) in a continuation of the limited repatriation program initiated on Saturday (07 March). A maximum of two narrow-body aircraft per hour carrying no more than 70 passengers each is permitted under current security parameters.
• The Syrian Civil Aviation Authority has designated Aleppo International Airport as an active transit corridor for international flights, while flights from Damascus International Airport remain suspended.
• Emirates has announced rescue flights from Dubai International Airport to seven UK airports, including Manchester, Birmingham, London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and Edinburgh. As of Sunday (08 March), the airline is operating 106 return daily flights to 83 destinations globally, approximately 60 percent of its full peacetime network of 140 destinations. Emirates has indicated it anticipates a return to 100 percent of its network within the coming days, subject to airspace availability and operational requirements.
• Qatar Airways is operating limited flights on Sunday (08 March) under a temporary safe operating corridor authorized by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority, with inbound services from London (LHR), Madrid (MAD), Paris (CDG), Rome (FCO), Frankfurt (FRA), and Bangkok (BKK) intended to operate. Passengers are advised to monitor Qatar Airways channels for confirmation prior to proceeding to their departure airports.
• IndiGo has announced it will attempt to resume flights to eight Middle Eastern destinations on Sunday (08 March). The airline has additionally extended its free cancellation waiver for all bookings to the Middle East and Istanbul until 31 March.
• Lufthansa Group’s current suspensions for Tel Aviv, Beirut, Amman, Erbil, Dammam, and Tehran are scheduled to expire on Sunday (08 March), pending the completion of further security reviews by the airline. Passengers on affected routes should confirm their flight status directly with the carrier prior to travel.
