As per reports, the following are the latest updates on the farmers’ protests in North India as of Thursday (29 August):

• The Bharatiya Kisan Union Ugrahan faction [BKU (Ugrahan)] has announced an “Agriculture Policy Morcha” (protest march) in Chandigarh between 01-05 September to protest against various agricultural policies and press for farmers’ demands. Members and office-bearers of about 14 organisations and unions, including Powercom Contractual Employees Union, Democratic Teachers Front (DTF) and Punjab Students Union (PSU)-Shaheed Randhawa have expressed support for the protest march.
• Meanwhile, hundreds of activists of the BKU (Ugrahan) continued their sit-in protest near Saraud village in the Sangrur District of Punjab, against land acquisition by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for the Delhi-Katra Expressway. On Wednesday (28 August), BKU activists clashed with police personnel at the site after trying to break through barricades.
• The farmers’ wing of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ‘gheraoed’ (blockaded) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Chandigarh on Wednesday (28 August) to protest against the allegedly objectionable remarks by BJP member of parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut on the farmers’ protest. Various AAP workers and legislators participated in the blockade, and some were detained by local police.
• In Uttar Pradesh (UP), several hundred members of the Lokhit faction of the BKU staged a blockade of the Delhi-Lucknow National Highway near Hapur. The protestors burned an effigy of MP Kagana Ranaut, following which police attempted to disperse the protestors, leading to clashes.
