Update on explosion near Red Fort Metro Station area in Delhi – Tuesday (11 November)

As per reports, the following are the updates on the explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station area in Delhi as of Tuesday (11 November):

• Investigation and response operations remain underway following a car explosion reported near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort (Lal Quila) Metro Station in Old Delhi at approximately 1900 hours (local time) on Monday (10 November). The incident resulted in over 13 fatalities and 24 injuries, with the toll likely to rise as rescue and forensic assessments continue.
• Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) have been deployed to assist Delhi Police and forensic experts at the scene. The blast, which originated in a Hyundai i20 vehicle halted at a traffic signal, caused a fire that spread to three to four nearby vehicles before being brought under control. Emergency responders and police personnel secured the site shortly after 1855 hours (local time), and the area remains cordoned off for investigation.
• A high alert has been declared across Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Karnataka, with heightened surveillance reported in crowded areas, transport hubs, and government installations. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has elevated security measures across Delhi Metro facilities, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), and key government premises.
• The Delhi Metro continues to operate; however, entry and exit gates at Red Fort (Lal Quila) Metro Station remain restricted, while Jama Masjid Metro Station was temporarily closed on Monday (10 November) causing localized travel delays. Delhi Police have enforced traffic diversions around Netaji Subhash Marg, Mahatma Gandhi Marg, and Chandni Chowk. Chandni Chowk Market is expected to remain closed on Tuesday (11 November).
• Authorities in multiple states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh, have been placed on alert. Police in Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Lucknow have increased patrolling near metro networks and high-footfall zones. In Noida, additional checkpoints have been established along the Delhi-Noida border, with vehicle inspections underway.
• Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are monitoring developments, with the Prime Minister reported to have reviewed the situation. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and officials have not ruled out any possible motive at this stage.
