As per reports, the following are the latest updates about the Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation amidst the release of Delhi Chief Minister (CM) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal as of Wednesday (15 May):
• The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) house of councilors witnessed protests, sloganeering and disruptions to its proceedings on Tuesday (14 May) after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councilors raised the issue of sexual assault allegations against CM Kejriwal’s personal assistant (PA), filed by former National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Swati Maliwal the prior day.
• The BJP councilors attempted to table a condemnation resolution against the incident, however the resolution was rejected by incumbent mayor, AAP’s Shelly Oberoi. Following this, the MCD house was adjourned for the day at approximately 1145 hours.
• The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday (14 May) informed the Delhi High Court (HC) that it will name the AAP as a co-accused party in the money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor policy scam for subsequent investigations. It made the submission before the HC while opposing the bail plea of former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the case.
• The Delhi mayoral election, which was postponed indefinitely on 29 April due to CM Kejriwal’s incarceration, are likely to take place soon due to CM Kejriwal’s release on bail. The election proceedings will commence after the Delhi Lieutenant Governor appoints a presiding officer to oversee the election.
• Bharatiya Rashtriya Samiti (BRS) leader and co-accused the liquor policy scam, K Kavitha’s judicial custody has been extended till Monday (20 May) by a special court.
• AAP senior leader Sanjay Singh issued a statement on Tuesday (14 May), taking cognisance of the allegations by former NCW chief Swati Maliwal, and assuring that CM Kejriwal and senior party leadership will take stringent action. He also stated that her complaint was yet to be officially registered, alleging that she only informed personnel at the Civil Lines police station, but did not actually file charges.
