As per reports, the following are the latest updates as of Tuesday (01 April) on the effects of the magnitude 7.7 earthquake that struck Myanmar on 28 March:

• As of Monday (31 March) evening, the death toll in the Bangkok building collapse had reached 13, while 77 more workers still remain unaccounted for.
• Thai authorities, in collaboration with rescue teams resumed the rescue operation at the building collapse site on Tuesday (01 April), with the operation crossing 72 hours. Authorities have assured that the operation will continue until all survivors or bodies from the site are recovered.
• Furthermore, the Chatuchak District Office is also likely to take legal action against Chinese persons allegedly removing sensitive documents from the collapse site. Authorities are also likely to probe a Chinese-origin company, which is the leading partner in the building project.
• Thailand’s financial payments infrastructure and banking services resumed normal operations on Monday (31 March), as per the Central Bank. However, the Central Bank has also stated that the earthquake is likely to negatively affect the Thai Stock Market, insurance premiums, the property market, and the tourism sector in the short term.
• The death toll in Myanmar has crossed 2,700 as of Tuesday (01 April), with the figure expected to exceed 3,000, as per Military Junta Chief Min Aung Hlaing. He further stated that over 4,500 people are injured and at least 440 remain missing at present.
