As per the India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) bulletin at 1530 hours on Thursday (29 August), the deep depression over Saurashtra and Kachchh moved slowly westwards with a speed of three kmph during past six hours and lay centered at 1130 hours over the same region 70 km northwest of Bhuj (Gujarat), 60 km northeast of Naliya (Gujarat) and 250 km east-southeast of Karachi (Pakistan).
It is likely to move west-southwestwards, emerge into northeast Arabian Sea off Kachchh and adjoining Saurashtra and Pakistan coasts and intensify into a Cyclonic Storm on Friday (30 August). Thereafter, it would continue to move nearly west-southwestwards over northeast Arabian Sea away from Indian coast during subsequent two days. The following warnings have been issued:
• Rainfall Warning for Gujarat: Saurashtra and Kachchh are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places on Thursday (29 August). Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Friday (30 August) and heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal districts can be anticipated on Saturday (31 August).
• Wind Warning:
– Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, is likely over the districts of South Gujarat Region and Saurashtra and Kutch on Thursday (29 August) and Friday (30 August).
– Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph, gusting to 75 kmph, is very likely to prevail along and off Gujarat coasts and adjoining Pakistan coasts and over northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea during Thursday (29 August) to Saturday (31 August).
– Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph, gusting to 85 kmph, is likely to prevail over northeast Arabian Sea off Gujarat and Pakistan coasts from Friday (30 August) till Sunday (01 September).
– Gale wind speed reaching 65-75 kmph, gusting to 85 kmph, is likely to prevail over northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea off Pakistan and southeast Iran coasts from Saturday (31 August) till Monday (02 September).
– Strong wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, is likely to prevail along and off north Maharashtra coasts during Thursday (29 August) to Saturday (31 August).
• Sea Condition:
– Squally weather with rough to very rough sea conditions is very likely to prevail along and off Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan and north Maharashtra coasts till Saturday (31 August).
– Very rough to high sea conditions are likely to prevail over northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea off Gujarat and Pakistan coasts during Thursday (29 August) to Saturday (31 August).
– Very rough to high sea conditions are likely to prevail over northwest and adjoining west-central Arabian Sea off Pakistan and southeast Iran coasts from Saturday (31 August) till Monday (02 September).
• Advisory for Offshore/Onshore Exploration and Production (E & P) Operators: Small ships and offshore/onshore E & P operators, along with shipping and port authorities along and off Gujarat and north Maharashtra coasts, as well as the northeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea, are advised to monitor developing weather conditions and take necessary actions till Friday (30 August).
