Update on cancellation of trains from Sevastopol as of Wednesday (28 October)

Risk level: Low Country: Ukraine

As per reports, Sevastopol has disappeared from the Grand Service Express train schedule which has led to cancellation of trains as of Wednesday (28 October).

• Passengers can no longer buy tickets from the Sevastopol station, they must purchase tickets from Simferopol. From there, buses can be accessed which transport passengers to Kerch to board the train.
• This arrangement complicates railway connections to Crimea and requires additional travel planning. Transfers are particularly sensitive for families with children, elderly passengers, and those with heavy luggage.
• The disruptions systematically degraded Russia’s Ground Lines of Communication (GLOCs), forcing operator Grand Service Express to enact emergency operational contingencies.
• Now all surviving long-distance Tavriya passenger trains from mainland Russia terminate prematurely at the Kerch-Yuzhnaya (Novy Park) station.
• The total number of operational trains servicing the Crimean route dropped dramatically from 18 down to just seven core routes, with seasonal lines phased out completely.
• Now, passengers are transported via highly coordinated emergency bus fleets organized between Kerch-Yuzhnaya and local Crimean cities.
• The instability prompted an unprecedented wave of tourist booking cancellations and severe disruptions to domestic civilian traffic.
