According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), following are the updates on the air-quality index (AQI) in Delhi-NCR, as of Sunday (02 November);

• AQI as of 1600 hours (local time) on Saturday (01 November): Delhi – 303 (very poor), Faridabad – 196 (moderate), Gurugram – 276 (poor), Ghaziabad – 298 (poor), Greater Noida – 265 (poor), and Noida – 292 (poor).
• The latest spike in Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) has been attributed to a combination of factors, including a surge in stubble burning cases in Punjab — which reported 442 farm fires on Saturday (01 November), the highest single-day count so far this season according to the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) — along with emissions from vehicles, waste burning, industries.
• Accordingly, on Saturday (01 November), shallow fog and smog reduced visibility to 900 metres at Safdarjung and 1.3 kilometres at Palam, where winds were blowing southwesterly at four kilometres per hour (kmph).
• The Delhi government, following directions from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), has enforced a ban on the entry of non-Delhi-registered commercial vehicles that are Bharat Stage (BS)-III or lower emission compliant, allowing only those running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), electricity, or compliant with Bharat Stage-VI (BS-VI).
