As per reports, public transport operations in London may face disruption due to potential industrial action involving bus staff and Underground workers in April 2026.
• Over 150 employees, including bus station controllers and network traffic controllers, are being balloted for strike action by the Unite the Union. The ballot is scheduled to open on 23 March and close on 23 April.
• Union representatives have raised concerns that these changes may negatively affect work-life balance, increase fatigue, and create logistical challenges for staff required to travel to unfamiliar or distant work sites. There are also concerns that employees may face disciplinary consequences if they are unable to meet revised scheduling requirements.
• At the same time, members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union working on the London Underground are planning separate strike actions across April, May, and June as part of an ongoing dispute regarding working hours. The ballot for Underground workers is expected to conclude by 13 April.
• If bus staff approve strike action, there is a possibility that it may coincide with the planned Underground strikes, increasing the likelihood of simultaneous disruptions across multiple components of London’s transport network.
