As per reports, the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested two suspects from Mumbai in a joint operation on Sunday (05 April), for allegedly plotting a terror attack in Delhi.
Following are the latest details:
• One suspect was arrested from the Kurla West area of Mumbai, while the other was arrested from Kalyan. Both have been brought to Delhi for further interrogation.
• According to investigators, both men were highly radicalised and had alleged links with multiple terror organisations, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Islamic State (IS).
• Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused were learning how to assemble improvised explosive devices and were allegedly planning to carry out an attack in Delhi using a bomb concealed inside a toy car.
• Investigators are also probing possible links to a wider pan-India module. Intelligence inputs indicate that four to five minors hailing from the Kurla and Govandi-Shivaji Nagar area of Mumbai are suspected to have been influenced by IS propaganda, and are being monitored by the Special Cell. Authorities are currently assessing the appropriate course of action for the suspects. Several suspects are also under surveillance in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh.
• Interrogation of the arrested suspects is underway as of Monday (06 April), to establish the full extent of the network, funding channels, and potential targets.
