As per reports, the National Hurricane Center is observing a system off the North Carolina coast that has the potential to become a tropical disturbance and track inland over North Carolina between Monday (16 September) and Wednesday (18 September).
• As of Sunday (15 September), the system has a 50 percent chance of becoming a tropical disturbance over the next 48 hours. The system could make landfall near Wilmington on Monday (16 September) afternoon.
• North Carolina can expect breezy conditions and scatteredrainfall along with a heavy surface at the coast early next week depending on whether the system becomes tropical. The Upstate area could experience some showers depending on where the system tracks.
• Impacts will most likely be greatest on Monday (16 September) evening into night. Rainfall will start to end from south to north on Tuesday (17 September).
• This system is forecast to bring two to four inches of rainfall and 20-40 mph wind gusts, with the highest being in the Sandhills region. Minor flooding is likely, especially throughout the Triangle where the ground is already saturated. However, there is a near-zero tornado threat for the central North Carolina.
