As per reports, Tisséo Ingénierie has announced the temporary evacuation of residents from a building located at 7 rue de Séville in the Fondeyre district of Toulouse (Haute-Garonne) from Friday (11 July) until Tuesday (15 July). This preventive action is linked to the ongoing construction of Toulouse’s third metro line, specifically the underground tunnelling operations being conducted by the tunnel boring machine (TBM) Berthe de Puybusque.
• The TBM is scheduled to pass directly beneath the building as it approaches the future Fondeyre metro station by late summer 2025.
• The evacuation, expected to last approximately five days, is being carried out as a preemptive measure to minimize risks from potential ground disturbances and vibrations during tunneling operations
• Tisséo is providing individualized relocation support to the affected residents and has assigned a point of contact for coordination. Pre-tunneling assessments including geotechnical studies, structural diagnostics, and building monitoring have confirmed the proximity of the TBM path to the building’s foundations, which necessitated this precaution.
• The company has described this scenario as an ‘isolated case’ along Metro Line C. However, the incident underscores the inherent complexities and risks associated with major subterranean infrastructure development projects in densely inhabited urban zones.
