As per reports, members of the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC), alongside farmers, social organisations, health sector workers, education sector representatives, and civil society groups, are scheduled to stage a large-scale “Megamarcha” protest in Mexico City (CDMX), Mexico, on Wednesday (20 May).
• Reports indicate that protest groups began gathering near Paseo de la Reforma from approximately 0600 hours local time (1200 hours UTC), while the main demonstration remains scheduled to officially commence at approximately 0900 hours local time (1500 hours UTC) near the Ángel de la Independencia in Mexico City on Wednesday (20 May).
• Reportedly, transport workers are demanding improved highway security, measures against extortion, and justice for missing or murdered drivers, while additional participating groups are raising concerns regarding agricultural pricing, disappearances, healthcare supply shortages, labour conditions, pensions, and corruption.
• Reports suggest that significant traffic disruption and road closures are expected across several major roads and access corridors including Paseo de la Reforma, Avenida Juárez, Eje Central Lázaro Cárdenas, Circuito Interior, Insurgentes, and roads surrounding the Historic Centre and Zócalo area. Additional intermittent blockades are also anticipated along the México–Querétaro, México–Pachuca, México–Puebla, and México–Cuernavaca highways.
