As per reports, the City of Leipzig has announced extensive traffic and transport restrictions in the city center on Thursday (09 October), to mark the anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and the annual Festival of Lights.
• According to the municipal administration, several road closures will be enforced between 1800 hours local time (1600 hours UTC) and 2300 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) in and around Leipzig’s central districts to accommodate public events, parades, and commemorations.
• Gradual reopening of the affected routes is expected from 0100 hours local time (2300 hours UTC) on Friday (10 October).
• Bus Line 89 will be diverted between 1600 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) and 2359 hours local time (2159 hours UTC), rerouting toward the main train station via Goerdelerring, and toward Connewitzer Kreuz via Augustusplatz and Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz.
• Additionally, several underground car parks and parking spaces in the city center including Messepalast Courtyard, Messehof/Timonhaus, Neo Shopping Center, Volksbank, and Music School Courtyard, will be closed during the event.
• Other parking areas such as Gewandgässchen, Kupfergasse, and Magazingasse will remain accessible.
• Permanent exemption and resident parking permits will not be valid on this day.
• Additional localized traffic restrictions are anticipated around Nikolaikirchhof and Wilhelm-Leuschner-Platz due to guest arrivals and departures for official ceremonies.
