As per reports, the District Magistrate and Chairman of the Regional Transport Authority in Karnataka’s Kodagu district has issued an official order restricting the movement of heavy vehicles until Monday (25 August), in light of the ongoing heavy rainfall and associated landslide risk in the region.

The movement ban applies to all goods transport vehicles exceeding a registered weight of 18,500 kg. This includes bullet tankers, ship cargo containers, long chassis (multi-axle) vehicles, articulated trucks, and vehicles transporting timber and sand.

• Exemptions have been granted for essential services, such as: Vehicles transporting cooking gas, fuel, and milk, government service vehicles, school and college transport vehicles and public passenger transport services, including multi-axle buses.
• Enforcement mechanisms include the establishment of 24-hour checkposts at strategic locations on National Highway 275, particularly at Kushalnagar and Sampaje.
• Police and regional transport officers have been instructed to carry out mobile patrolling and take legal action against violations of the order.
