As per reports, due to the upcoming long weekend around Ascension Day between Thursday (29 May) and Sunday (01 June), a significant increase in traffic is anticipated across Austria, as many individuals plan short-term travel. Motorists’ associations have forecast prolonged delays on key routes.

• These conditions are expected to impact major arterial roads exiting Austria’s urban centres, including the Südosttangente (A23), Mühlkreis Autobahn (A7), West Autobahn (A1) in Salzburg, Ostautobahn (A4), Graz exits, and the Südring in Innsbruck. Additional congestion is likely on the Tauern Autobahn (A10) near Golling and Werfen due to ongoing construction, and on Fernpassstraße (B179).
• In Styria and Upper Austria, regional disruptions are expected due to large-scale public events. The Erzbergrodeo in Eisenerz, taking place from Thursday (29 May) to Sunday (01 June), is projected to draw thousands of visitors, causing significant congestion on the B115 (Eisenstraße) between Trofaiach, Vordernberg, and Eisenerz. Police controls will be in place.
• Additional disruptions are expected due to road closures for two cycling events: the Glocknerkönig and a cycling tour in Upper Austria. These closures include the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, B1 (Wiener Straße), B129 (Eferdinger Straße), and sections within Linz and Wels.
• To address increased travel demand, Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) has scheduled additional train services. However, demand is projected to exceed supply, and travelers are strongly advised to secure seat reservations in advance.
• Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club (ÖAMTC) has issued an advisory listing routes where extended delays are probable, particularly during the weekend. In Vorarlberg, key routes include the Rheintal Autobahn (A14) near Bludenz, the Arlberg Expressway (S16), and the Montafoner Straße (L188).
• In Tyrol, bottlenecks are expected along the Brenner Autobahn (A13), Inntal Autobahn (A12), Fernpassstraße (B179), and several regional roads including B177, B181, B169, B173, and B178. In Salzburg, congestion is anticipated on the West Autobahn (A1), Tauern Autobahn (A10), and regional routes such as B311 and B159.
• In Upper Austria and Styria, significant stretches include the Mühlkreis Autobahn (A7), Pyhrn Autobahn (A9), Eisenstraße (B115), and Salzkammergutstraße (B145). In Carinthia, delays are expected on the South Autobahn (A2).
• Lower Austria may experience congestion on the East Autobahn (A4), while Vienna’s Southeast Tangent (A23) is likely to be heavily affected. Cross-border traffic into Bavaria will also be impacted on highways such as the A8, A93, A95/B2, and the Little German Corner route.
