As per reports, the two-day warning strike in Berlin’s public transport system concluded in the early hours of Friday (28 March) and resumed services at 0300 hours (local time) on Friday (28 March). Mediation efforts in the wage dispute between the Berlin Transport Company (BVG) and the Verdi union are set to commence.

• Following unsuccessful collective bargaining negotiations, Verdi called for the latest warning strike, marking the fifth strike in the ongoing wage dispute. On Thursday (27 March), both parties agreed to mediation, scheduled until 10 April, during which a ‘peace obligation’ is in effect, prohibiting further strikes.
• The resumption of BVG services is expected to lead to congestion on roads during peak hours, and full normalization of services may take time. Disruptions in Berlin’s S-Bahn network will further impact commuters.
• Structural reinforcement work on the A100 ring railway bridge will cause the suspension of S-Bahn lines S41 and S42, and the S46 will experience frequency reductions between Halensee and Charlottenburg.
• Additionally, due to bridge reconstruction at Wollankstraße, the station stop in the Frohnau/Oranienburg/Hennigsdorf direction will be unavailable for approximately two years. Alternative routes have been suggested for passengers to reach the station.
• Furthermore, nighttime track construction work will result in service suspensions on the S2 and S8 lines between Pankow and Karow or Hohen Neuendorf, with bus replacements in place. Extensive timetable changes and suspensions will also occur on southeastern S-Bahn lines due to work on the electronic interlocking system.
