Traffic congestion intensifies around Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway interchange in Dong Nai on Wednesday (07 October)

Risk level: Low Country: Vietnam

According to reports, traffic congestion has intensified along Võ Nguyên Giáp Road and around the Gate 11 Roundabout in Dong Nai City following the temporary opening of the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway in May of 2026.

• Residents reported congestion occurring from early morning through late evening, with some commuters experiencing delays of up to three hours.
• Increased traffic has been attributed to motorists from northern and northwestern areas of Ho Chi Minh City and neighbouring areas using Gate 11 and Võ Nguyên Giáp Road to access the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway instead of National Highway 51 or the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay Expressway.
• Duong Anh Tuan, Deputy Head of the Structural Management and Traffic Safety Department under the Dong Nai City Department of Construction, stated that vehicle volumes converging on the interchange have increased significantly since the expressway became operational, complicating traffic management and safety.
• The expressway currently permits only vehicles carrying fewer than nine passengers to enter from the Võ Nguyên Giáp interchange. Authorities have indicated that expanding vehicle eligibility without corresponding traffic-management measures could increase congestion and accident risks.
• A separate report published on 01 October recorded a traffic queue of nearly 10 km between the Đồng Nai Bridge area and the Bien Hoa – Vung Tau Expressway interchange, highlighting wider congestion across the eastern gateway between Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai.
