Traffic and security measures announced for first session of 13th National Parliament in Dhaka on Thursday (12 March)

As per reports, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has announced special traffic arrangements around the Parliament area in Dhaka ahead of the first session of the 13th National Parliament scheduled on Thursday (12 March). The Deputy Police Commissioner of the Media and Public Relations Division further confirmed that heightened security and traffic management measures will also be in effect during the parliamentary session.

In addition, the session will reportedly witness the movement of the President, Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, foreign diplomats, political leaders, and other dignitaries. Consequently, traffic volume is expected to be significantly higher than usual around key areas, including Urojahaj Mor, Khajur Bagan, Manik Mia Avenue, Asadgate, and the July Memorial Museum (Ganobhaban) crossing.

• To prevent severe congestion, the DMP Traffic Division will implement road diversions on designated routes from 0800 to 1100 hours (local time). The following are the additional details:
• From Indira Road to Begum Rokeya Sarani: The vehicles heading towards Begum Rokeya Sarani from Indira Road via Urojahaj Mor will not be allowed to take a right turn. Instead, they will proceed straight through Manik Mia Avenue and reach their destination via Mirpur Road.
• From Manik Mia Avenue to Begum Rokeya Sarani: The vehicles heading towards Begum Rokeya Sarani from Manik Mia Avenue via Khejur Bagan will not be allowed to take a left turn, and will have to reach their destination via Farmgate.
• From Urojahaj Mor to Khejur Bagan, vehicles will move in a southbound one-way direction on both sides of the road.
• In addition, the DMP has also banned various activities, including meetings, gatherings, processions, and protests, in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and the surrounding areas of the capital.
• Following this, carrying all types of weapons, explosives, harmful and polluting materials, and any kind of meetings, processions, and demonstrations have been banned in specific areas, which will come into effect from midnight hours on Wednesday (11 March) and will remain in force until the end of the session of Parliament.
• The areas under the ban include Mymensingh Road from Mohakhali Crossing to Bangla Motor Crossing via the old airport, the area from the western end of Bangla Motor Link Road to SAARC Fountain on Hotel Sonargaon Road, the road from the eastern end of Panthapath to Green Road junction to Farmgate, the road from Shyamoli Intersection on Mirpur Road to Dhanmondi-16 Road junction, from Rokeya Sarani to the old Urodjahaj Crossing to Bijoy Sarani’s Parjatan Crossing and the area from the eastern end of Indira Road to the western end of Manik Mia Avenue.
• In addition, the reserved area of ​​the National Parliament Building and all roads and alleys within these boundaries will also be subject to this ban.
