As per reports, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced a three-day state mourning from Wednesday (31 December) at the death of three-time former Prime Minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.
Besides, he also declared a general holiday on Wednesday (31 December), the day of her Namaz-e-Janaza (funeral prayers).
• Banks will remain closed on Wednesday (31 December) after the interim government declared a public holiday as part of a three-day national mourning period. Non-bank financial institutions will also remain closed, according to circulars issued by the Bangladesh Bank.
• Meanwhile, garment and knitwear factories will remain shut on Wednesday (31 December), as per notices from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA). The BGMEA has requested factory owners to keep their units closed for the day as a mark of respect.
