As per reports, the railway line connecting Extremadura with Seville will be fully closed for a period of approximately two weeks starting Tuesday (07 April) due to infrastructure upgrade works.
• The closure reportedly affects the Mérida–Los Rosales line, where the Administrador de Infraestructuras Ferroviarias (Railway Infrastructure Administrator) is implementing a new traffic control system to replace the outdated telephone-based system currently in use.
• The works are concentrated within the province of Seville and have reached a stage where train operations are no longer compatible with ongoing construction activities.
• As a result, all train services between Zafra and Seville is expected to be suspended during this period.
• The Renfe has reportedly introduced an alternative transport plan to ensure passenger movement, consisting of road-based transfers. This includes direct bus services between Zafra and Seville, as well as additional buses serving intermediate stations along the route. A total of 224 bus trips are planned to accommodate affected passengers.
• Furthermore, commuter rail services on the C3 line, which normally operates between Seville Santa Justa and Cazalla-Constantina, is also expected to be replaced by buses across multiple stations, including Los Rosales, Tocina, Alcolea del Río, Villanueva del Río y Minas, El Pedroso, Cazalla, and Constantina.
• Train services are expected to continue to operate only on the section between Los Rosales and Seville via the C1 line.
