As per reports, a large-scale teachers’ rally and march is scheduled on Friday (01 May) in Raleigh, with thousands of educators and supporters expected to gather at Halifax Mall near the state government complex.
• The mobilisation, organised by the North Carolina Association of Educators, is part of the ‘Kids Over Corporations’ campaign advocating for increased public school funding and improved teacher pay.
• Participants are scheduled to begin gathering at 1000 hours local time (1400 hours UTC) on Friday (01 May), followed by speeches at 1100 hours local time (1500 hours UTC). The march is scheduled to commence at 1200 hours local time (1600 hours UTC), proceeding through downtown Raleigh along North Wilmington Street to East Morgan Street and returning via North Salisbury Street.
• The planned route is expected to pass several key landmarks, including North Carolina State Capitol, North Carolina Supreme Court, and North Carolina Department of Labor Building, as part of a themed “living classroom” highlighting historical and social issues related to education and public policy.
• Authorities have indicated that no official road closures are scheduled however, congestion is expected in central Raleigh, particularly around the state capitol and legislative areas, due to increased pedestrian activity and event participation.
