As per reports, Tanzanian and Ugandan health authorities, supported by the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC), have intensified joint Ebola preparedness and surveillance measures at the Tanzania–Uganda border as of Monday (25 May) following the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda.

• As of Saturday (16 May), DRC’s Ituri Province reported 80 suspected deaths, eight laboratory-confirmed cases, and 246 suspected cases across at least three health zones (Bunia, Rwampara, and Mongbwalu).
• Laboratory-confirmed cases reported in Uganda’s Kampala (including one death) and DRC’s Kinshasa, linked to travel from Ituri Province.
• Reports indicate that a rapid escalation was recorded in a high-traffic mining area. Moreover, insecurity in Ituri Province, active community transmission, and cross-border movement complicate containment efforts.
• Health agencies (including Africa CDC and local ministries) are intensifying health screening and contact tracing at major transit points, land borders, and airports.
