Sweden to tighten protest laws as of Wednesday (17 September)

As per reports, on Tuesday (16 September), the Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, has announced to consider tightening protest laws, following recent pro-Palestinian demonstrations which occurred in Sweden on Saturday (13 September).

• Reports indicate that the debate intensified after protesters confronted Civil Defence Minister Carl-Oscar Bohlin outside parliament on Saturday (13 September), engaging in shouting and behaviour described by officials as threatening.
• Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson reportedly stated that these actions are completely unfounded and raised concerns about public safety and minority targeting in Sweden.
• Political leaders, have reportedly called for tougher restrictions, framing the movement as part of a ‘radical Palestinian movement.’
• It has been alleged that the government’s review may lead to stricter regulations on demonstrations, assembly rights, or security measures around officials and minority communities.
