As per reports, a surge is being witnessed in high-visibility violent crime incidents in parts of Dhaka in recent days. Following are the latest updates as of Monday (07 September):
• A series of shootings, killings, robberies and other violent crimes in Dhaka in recent days has raised fresh concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation. In the latest incident, a 27-year-old expatriate youth was stabbed to death by a group of local criminals in Dhaka’s Adarshapara area in Sabujbagh on Sunday (06 September) afternoon.
• Other prominent crimes reported in the last week include the shooting of a businessman inside his shop in Shani Akhra, the shooting of a woman at her home in Darus Salam, and the recovery of an unidentified man’s body from the Airport-bound elevated expressway in Banani.
• The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has conducted drives across the capital over the past three days, arresting more than 1,300 people and filing over 150 cases. Illegal firearms have also been recovered during the drives. Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has launched motorcycle patrols in Adabor, Mohammadpur and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in response to the recent rise in snatching incidents.
