As per reports, at approximately 0908 hours local time (0608 hours UTC) students at Vergina High School in Larnaca are abstaining from classes on Wednesday (09 September) in protest against the condition of school facilities and are demanding immediate action to address longstanding maintenance problems.
• Reports indicate that students and parents have raised concerns over damaged facilities, maintenance problems and poor conditions at the school, including corroded walls, peeling plaster, rusty railings, dampness, mould and damaged flooring.
• Reports indicate that problems have also been recorded in the sanitary areas and parts of the external grounds, including waste and overgrown vegetation.
• Reports indicate that Deputy Director of Secondary General Education Giorgos Koutsidis is at the school and is expected to meet the school management regarding the reported problems. The President of the Larnaca Secondary Education Parents and Guardians Federation, Kostas Kostas, is also at the school.
