As per reports, a magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck northern Chile on Monday (26 May). The epicenter was located approximately 20 kilometers northeast of Calama in the Antofagasta region.
• The tremor was recorded at 1753 hours local time (2153 hours UTC) and was felt in four regions: Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Antofagasta, and Atacama.
• As per the National Service for Disaster Prevention and Response (Senapred), emergency teams remain monitoring the situation to assess damage to people, infrastructure, and essential services.
• As per the National Seismological Center and the Navy’s Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service (SHOA), the earthquake did not trigger a tsunami warning, and risks of rogue waves to the Chilean coast have been ruled out.
