As per reports, on Wednesday (11 March), the Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) House of Delegates reportedly approved a resolution calling for a “no work, no school” day on 01 May across Chicago Public Schools (CPS).
• Reports indicate that the notice stated teachers and students should skip regular school activities in order to participate in marches, rallies, civic engagement activities, and political demonstrations associated with the national “May Day Strong” movement.
• Union leadership has reportedly requested that the Chicago mayor and the Chicago Public Schools administration officially recognise the day as a civic action event, which may allow students to take an excused absence under state provisions for civic participation.
• Planned activities for 01 May may include rallies, voter registration drives, civic education programmes, labour history events, and public demonstrations across Chicago.
