As per reports, Storm Olivier, originating from the Iberian Peninsula, is forecast to impact the Mediterranean region, particularly Marseille and the Bouches-du-Rhône, between Friday (11 April) and Wednesday (16 April).
• Starting Friday (11 April), the sky over Marseille is expected to begin to cloud over, and heavy rainfall is expected to arrive by Sunday (13 April), continuing through at least Wednesday (16 April).
• This Mediterranean storm is expected to lead to a significant amount of rainfall in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region. Reports predict that some municipalities may experience up to a month’s worth of rainfall in just 24 hours, with totals reaching 30-50 millimetres in Bouches-du-Rhône from Sunday (13 April) to Monday (14 April) morning.
• The storm may be accompanied by heavy, sometimes stormy rainfall, possibly lasting for the entire week. Winds are also expected to intensify, reaching gusts of up to 55 kilometres per hour on Sunday (13 April) and continuing through the week. Temperatures will range between 11 and 21 degrees Celsius, with a marked decrease in visibility and mobility due to weather conditions.
• This storm, although not making direct contact with French territory, may significantly affect the weather, especially in the western half of the country, with heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gales predicted across multiple regions.
• The Atlantic coast departments, particularly in Gironde, Charente-Maritime, Vendée, and Loire-Atlantique, may be the first to experience rainfall starting Saturday (12 April). The rainfall may spread inland throughout the day, impacting the western half of the country. By Sunday (13 April), rainfall and storms are expected to intensify, affecting much of the country.
