As per reports, the Ministry of the Interior confirmed the extension of the state of emergency in Lima and Callao on Thursday (18 December). The measure is planned to continue supporting the operational capacity of the Peruvian National Police (PNP) in interventions against organized crime and urban violence.
Interior Minister Vicente Tiburcio stated that homicides decreased between November and December, with 33 cases reported in Lima and 10 in Callao. He emphasized that the state of emergency remains a key tool for police operations, allowing targeted interventions across the capital, even if police presence is not always visible.
• The minister also addressed ongoing legal proceedings involving the suspended regional governor of Callao, Ciro Castillo Rojo, and the mayor of Comas, Ulises Villegas, noting that no official receives preferential treatment under the Ministry’s actions.
• The measure is being continued, but no expiration or review date was mentioned by the Ministry of the Interior.
