As per reports from the Superintendência de Proteção e Defesa Civil da Bahia, heavy rainfall in Bahia has led 16 municipalities to declare a state of emergency as of Wednesday (04 March). The most affected areas include Cachoeira in the Recôncavo region, where the Riacho Ipitanga, a tributary of the Paraguaçu River, overflowed. Flooding occurred across multiple streets in the city center, and water and mud affected homes and commercial establishments. Approximately 80 families have been reported affected. The total number of displaced or evacuated residents has not yet been confirmed.
In Salvador, accumulated rainfall exceeded 80 mm over the last 72 hours, prompting the Civil Defense (Codesal) to raise the alert from Observation to Attention level. More than 130 emergency calls have been received, including reports of landslides and risks of building collapse. Unstable weather is expected to continue through Thursday (05 March).
• The current weather conditions are influenced by a South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) combined with a low-pressure system. Codesal teams are intensifying monitoring and remain on standby for emergency response.
