As per reports, the Government of Chile has declared a State of Catastrophe for the Coquimbo Region following the severe impacts of a frontal weather system that has caused widespread flash flooding, landslides, infrastructure damage, and casualties on Monday (20 July).

• The declaration reportedly grants national authorities additional emergency powers to coordinate response operations, mobilise resources, and support affected municipalities.
• Municipal authorities reported that aerial assessments using drones are underway to determine the extent of the damage, while several communities remain isolated due to flash flooding. Search efforts also continue for individuals reported missing following evacuation attempts.
• As of Monday (20 July), emergency operations are being coordinated by municipal authorities alongside the Carabineros, Fire Department, Chilean Navy, and other emergency response agencies.
