As per reports, the State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2024 of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to take place on Monday (22 July) at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.
• The Philippine National Police will deploy 22,000-23,000 personnel around Metro Manila, and 6,000 police personnel will be deployed at the Batasan Complex.
• Around 2000 guests are expected to attend the speech.
• The coalition of former President Rodrigo Duterte’s supporters will hold the ‘Hakbang ng Maisug’ rally at the Liwasang Bonifacio during the SONA event. Around 5000 people are expected to attend the rally.
• The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) along with the Transport and Traffic Management (TTM) has stated that a zipper lane will be implemented along Commonwealth Avenue (southbound) to allow vehicles of government officials and visitors to the National Legislative Complex.
• The Batasan-IBP road will be closed to public vehicles from 0800 hours.
• They have advised motorists to take alternative routes as traffic congestion is expected along Commonwealth Avenue and around the Batasan Complex.
• Alternate routes are as follows:
– Northbound (Quezon Memorial Circle to Fairview): Vehicles from Elliptical Road should take North Avenue, right turn at Mindanao Avenue, then right turn to Sauyo Road or take Quirino Highway to reach the point of destination.
– Southbond (Fairview to Quezon Memorial Circle): Vehicles from Commonwealth Avenue should take Sauyo Road or Quirino Highway, turn left at Mindanao Avenue, then turn left at North Avenue to reach the point of destination.
– Light Vehicles: Light vehicles from C5 Road may turn left at Magiting St., turn right at Maginhawa St., turn left at Mayaman St. to Kalayaan Avenue to reach the point of destination.
– Trucks: All trucks coming from C-5 along Katipunan Avenue should take Luzon Flyover then turn left at Congressional Avenue to reach the point of destination.
• The Philippine National Police (PNP) has also issued a gun ban from 0001 hours on Saturday (20 July) until 0001 hours on Tuesday (23 July), suspending the permit to carry firearms outside of residence.
• A no-fly zone has also been established in the SONA venue.
• Human rights groups BAYAN and KATRIBU have also announced to hold rallies near the Commonwealth Avenue against the President.
