Small craft advisory issued for Long Island shore in New York on Friday (13 February)

As per reports, the National Weather Service (NWS) New York NY (OKX) has issued a Small Craft Advisory for the Atlantic coastal waters south of Long Island.

• The advisory remains in effect until 0100 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) on Friday (13 February).
• The advisory was issued at 2107 hours local time (0207 hours UTC Friday, 13 February) on Thursday (12 February) and applies to marine zones ANZ350, covering the waters from Moriches Inlet, New York, to Montauk Point, New York, out to 20 nautical miles, and ANZ353, covering the waters from Fire Island Inlet, New York, to Moriches Inlet, New York, out to 20 nautical miles.
• During the advisory period, northwest winds are expected to average around 15 knots, with gusts reaching up to 25 knots. In addition, wave heights are forecast to build to between four and five feet, creating hazardous conditions for small craft operating within the affected coastal waters.
• These conditions are expected to create hazardous operating environments for smaller vessels, particularly in exposed waters and near inlet approaches where wave steepness and cross-currents may intensify.
