As per reports, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has issued an urgent flood warning following the overflow of the Brimsu River in the Cape Coast Metropolis on Wednesday (24 June) at 1456 hours local time (1456 hours UTC), with floodwaters already inundating homes in Esuekyir, Anafo, and nearby communities, as well as several houses along the road leading to the Bonkus area.
• The Cape Coast North Director of NADMO, Nana Banyin Quayson, confirmed that the Brimsu River, a major freshwater source in the Central Region that feeds the Brimsu Reservoir, exceeded its carrying capacity following recent heavy rainfall, resulting in floodwaters spilling into residential areas.
• NADMO is urging all residents living near the Brimsu River and in other flood-prone communities across the Cape Coast Metropolis to relocate immediately to safer locations, with authorities emphasising that early relocation is the most effective measure to reduce casualties and property loss.
• Authorities have advised residents to avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways and to report emergency situations to the appropriate authorities promptly.
