As per reports, a small training aircraft crash occurred at Fluehr Park, located near Grant Avenue and Torresdale Avenue in the Torresdale section, south of Northeast Philadelphia Airport, at approximately 1530 hours local time (1930 hours UTC) on Wednesday (01 April).
The aircraft identified as a Piper PA-28 operated by Fly Legacy Aviation, reportedly experienced a loss of engine power over the Delaware River prior to the crash.
• Reportedly, the instructor and student pilot onboard attempted an emergency landing in the park but collided with a tree, resulting in significant damage to the aircraft.
• Two individuals onboard, including an off-duty Philadelphia police officer, sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. No fatalities have been reported.
• Emergency response teams, including fire services, hazardous materials units, and police, were deployed to the scene.
• A small fuel spill was reported. However, no fire occurred.
• Authorities have secured the area and advised the public to avoid the park while response operations remain ongoing.
• The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are expected to investigate the incident.
