As per reports, authorities in Palm Bay, Florida, issued evacuation orders and a shelter-in-place advisory on Tuesday (23 June) following a large chemical spill at the FAR Research facility located near Wilhelmina Court and Robert J. Conlan Boulevard in the northeastern section of the Palm Bay.
The incident, classified as a rupture, was reported by a plant employee at approximately 1600 hours local time (2000 hours UTC) on Tuesday (23 June).
• Reports as of 1630 hours local time (2030 hours UTC) indicate that multiple Palm Bay Fire Rescue units and law enforcement personnel were deployed to the scene to contain the spill and secure the surrounding area. Authorities indicated that no explosion occurred and no injuries had been reported.
• However, as a precaution, Palm Bay Police initiated reverse 9-1-1 notifications and ordered evacuations and shelter-in-place measures for residences and businesses located within a half-mile radius of the facility.
• Reports as of 1700 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) indicate that the chemical release was described as potentially hazardous; however, the exact substance involved and the number of affected residents had not been disclosed.
