As per reports, more than 600 firefighters and support personnel are responding to the Sand Creek and Bobcat Lakes wildfires in Beaverhead County, Montana as of Saturday (29 August).
• The Sand Creek Fire, burning approximately seven miles southeast of Wisdom, has affected more than 34,000 acres and is 13 percent contained, while the Bobcat Lakes Fire, burning between Wise River and Wisdom, has affected more than 10,000 acres and is 40 percent contained. The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
• The Dingley Zone in the Grasshopper Valley remains under a “Go” evacuation status, indicating residents in the affected area are required to evacuate. Authorities have also closed the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway, while the US Forest Service has closed several roads and trails within the Wisdom and Dillon Ranger Districts. Beaverhead County remains under Stage 01 fire restrictions.
• Firefighters are conducting operations to protect private property, extinguish hotspots and reinforce containment lines, supported by aircraft dropping water and fire retardant. Scattered rainfall, increased humidity and cloud cover may moderate fire activity, although gusty winds could continue to drive fire spread along exposed slopes.
• Crews are expected to conduct aerial and hand ignition operations where conditions permit, while heavy equipment will be deployed along the Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway to strengthen the road as a control line.
