As per reports, more than 60,000 customers remain without electricity across San Antonio, Texas, following severe storms that caused widespread infrastructure damage during the night of Friday (28 August).
• At the peak of the disruption, approximately 112,000 City Public Service (CPS) Energy customers were affected, while hundreds of individual outages remain active.
• The storms produced winds of around 60 miles per hour and extensive lightning, resulting in downed power lines, broken utility poles and fallen trees across the city.
• Approximately 250 downed power lines remained to be addressed as of Saturday (29 August) morning, while the Five Points area was identified as the hardest-hit part of San Antonio, accounting for more than one-third of affected customers at one stage.
• CPS Energy has deployed crews around the clock, supported by additional external resources, to repair damaged infrastructure and restore electricity. However, authorities have warned that some outages could persist through Sunday (30 August) and into early next week, particularly smaller and more dispersed outages.
• The city has received approximately 167 reports of fallen trees, with crews prioritising the clearance of immediate hazards and affected streets. Cooling centres are available at most city libraries and park facilities, while resilience hubs are operating at several community centres. VIA Metropolitan Transit is providing free transportation to cooling centres through its regular routes.
