The incident impacted both the airport’s primary electrical grid and its microgrid system on Thursday (11 June).
• Airport authorities as of 1700 hours local time (2100 hours UTC) reported that response teams successfully restored power and have continued to manage the situation while providing updates to passengers within the terminal.
• Additionally, travellers have been advised to check with their respective airlines regarding flight status and to allow additional time for security screening procedures at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints.
• According to reports issued via the National Weather Service (NWS), a Slight Risk (Level Two of Five) for severe thunderstorms has been issued for Central Pennsylvania for Thursday (11 June).
• Additionally, due to the ongoing thunderstorm activity, including the potential for strong winds, lightning, and hail, additional operational disruptions at Pittsburgh International Airport may not be potentially ruled out as adverse weather continues to affect the region for Thursday (11 June).
