As per reports, a fast-moving grass fire prompted evacuations in northeast Norman, Oklahoma, on Wednesday (12 August). The Norman Fire Department responded to the fire near 24th Avenue NE and Robinson Street, where crews reported that the blaze was moving rapidly from south to north.
• Authorities evacuated the Norman Water Treatment Plant as a precaution due to the fire’s proximity to the facility and prevailing weather conditions. Evacuation orders were also issued for residences along Coach Court, specifically homes between 2901 and 2937 Coach Court, located in a residential area south of the water treatment plant. Residents were instructed to leave immediately, close doors and windows before departing, and avoid travelling through smoke or towards the fire.
• CrossPointe Church, located at 2601 24th Avenue SE, has been opened to accommodate evacuees. Firefighters are conducting containment operations while working to protect nearby infrastructure and properties. Authorities have asked residents and motorists to avoid the area around 24th Avenue NE and Robinson Street. The fire and emergency response remain ongoing as of the latest update.
