Situational update on fire incident reported at Boston Medical Center in Brighton no Wednesday (15 April)

As per reports, a fire incident occurred at Boston Medical Center in Brighton at approximately 0200 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) on Wednesday (15 April).

The incident occurred at the facility on Cambridge Street, formerly known as St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, when fire broke out in an electrical room.

• The fire was contained shortly after by emergency responders. However, the incident caused a generator failure and resulted in power outages in some parts of the hospital.
• As a result, some intensive care unit (ICU) patients were evacuated, with at least eight patients transferred to other hospitals, including Boston Medical Center’s main campus.
• The hospital confirmed that no injuries had been reported.
• A large emergency response was deployed to the hospital, with multiple first responders remaining on site as of 0600 hours local time (1000 hours UTC) on Wednesday (15 April).
• As of 0700 hours local time (1100 hours UTC), power outages are being reported. Planned elective procedures and outpatient appointments are being rescheduled. The emergency department at Boston Medical Center Brighton is not accepting ambulance patients.
• The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
