Shehbaz Sharif elected Pakistan Prime Minister after securing 201 votes

As per reports, the National Assembly on Sunday (03 March) elected Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz’s Shehbaz Sharif as the 24th elected prime minister of the country with 201 votes. Meanwhile Omer Ayub Khan, the candidate backed by Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), secured 92 votes. Reportedly, arrangements for a guard of honor and a welcoming ceremony for the new PM on Monday (04 March) are underway.

During the session, slogans and chants were raised by members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) in support of imprisoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and the alliance supporting Shehbaz Sharif.
