As per reports, an intense and widespread heatwave has impacted the eastern US on Tuesday (24 June).
• Temperatures reported were 38 degree Celsius at John F Kennedy Airport in New York City. Similar temperatures were recorded in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Boston, and as far north as Fryeburg, Maine.
• Over 150 million people across the East Coast were placed under heat alerts.
• Numerous cases of heat exhaustion were reported, including 16 hospitalizations in Paterson, New Jersey, and two teenage hikers rescued from heat-related distress in New Hampshire.
• Utilities requested power conservation to avoid grid overloads. Train services experienced delays. Businesses supplying ice and cooling equipment reported emergency demand surges.
