As per reports, the National Meteorological and Hydrological Service (SENAMHI) has issued Notice No. 004, declaring a red alert for extreme weather conditions from Friday (29 August) to Sunday (31 August).

• The 71-hour warning highlights the risk of forest fires in multiple regions of Peru, particularly the mountains and jungle, due to lack of rainfall, reduced humidity, rising daytime temperatures, and the presence of dry vegetation.
• The Amazonian regions are expected to face critical hotspots from extreme heat, while high Andean areas may experience rapid fire spread in grasslands and forests due to dry soil and wind. SENAMHI has advised against agricultural burning or handling flammable materials, and urged regional authorities to coordinate with firefighters, Civil Defense, and municipalities to prepare contingency plans.
• The alert requires activation of rapid response protocols in rural communities, as fires threaten biodiversity, natural reserves, soil quality, and public health. Specialists warn that prolonged localised droughts linked to climate change are intensifying risks, especially in protected Amazonian ecosystems.
