As per reports, the Punjab Police have heightened the security across the state ahead of Independence Day (15 August). A special operation, “OPS Seal-VII,” aimed at checking all vehicles entering or exiting the state was conducted over the weekend (03-04 August).

• As part of OPS Seal-VII, police set up barricades at 91 entry-exit points in the 10 border districts of the state to check drug trafficking, liquor smuggling, and other criminal activity. Over 1,100 police personnel under the supervision of senior police officers were deputed to such barricades in 10 districts — Pathankot, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Fazilka, Rupngagar (Ropar), Mohali (SAS Nagar), Patiala, Sangrur, Mansa, Hoshiarpur and Bathinda.
• 3,668 vehicles were checked and 139 challans issued, while 12 vehicles were impounded. The police also registered 14 FIRs after arresting 14 persons. The police teams also rounded up 431 persons for questioning.
• Patiala Police arrested a weapon smuggler from Sriganganagar in Rajasthan while he was on way to deliver a consignment, and seized several guns and ammunition from him.
