According to reports, multiple scrub fires were burning near State Highway (SH) 2 in Western Bay of Plenty on Thursday (30 January). Initially, a large cloud of smoke was reported near SH2, and the smoke was observed near Wainui South Road, just past Apata, at 1320 hours (local time).

While traffic is increasing, the fire hasn’t affected SH 2 traffic yet.
